What you used to be able to do was to set a hard-to-guess e-mail alias (e.g. ZaphodBeeblebrox@tmomail.com). You could also block e-mails to <10-digit-number>@tmomail.com. Then a spammer would have to guess the alias to send you SPAM. T-Mobile (in their infinite wisdom) decided that customers didn't need such a handy, useful feature and discontinued it. It was part of their Text & E-Mail Tools (if I recall correctly).
