This has been frustrating me for weeks. I've searched around and have found plenty of other people with the same issue:
- Incoming messages truncated with 'null'
- Text messages truncated with "null"
- "Null" appears in received text messages/ Group text messaging doesn't work with wifi
For me:
- I'm using a Nexus 5 with the Hangouts app (since it is the only/default option).
- The issue started around the beginning of July
- I'm in the NYC area
- I have not had many issues (at least not recently) with picture messages and I have a friend who sends me several picture messages every day.
- I've experienced this issue receiving texts from an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy S3 (I don't get long texts from many people)
- I've rebooted my phone several times and it does not fix the issue
More technical details:
- As user vnmchat mentions , I also seem to experience this issue when spaces are located around character 153. I've seen this issue with three different messages with spaces at char 153 and three with spaces at 156; however, correlation is not causation! Just an observation.
- I don't have the old TMO APN (epc.tmobile.com) as an option, and I'm don't want to break anything by setting it up, so I haven't tested user clafferty's suggestion which they say has fixed their problem.
- In one case I asked my friend to re-send me the same message, but remove all spaces between chars 153 and 160. He didn't follow directions and instead sent me the same message again, except this time with two newlines at the end followed by the sentence "Here you go." This time the entire message came through.
- I asked him to send one message four or five times to see if one of them would come through but they all were cut off and ended in "null"
- I turned off mobile data and had him re-send long messages. The ones that did not work before continued to be truncated and show null, so no luck there.
Hopefully pinging some support techs who have seen this issue before: @tmo_matt ... @tmo_mistty ... @tmo_chrisl
This is frustrating and annoying to both me and the senders. I have to ask them to re-send only part of their message and specify at what point from which to start.
Hopefully T-Mobile can identify the issue and release a fix soon.
