There's really not much that T-Mobile can do in your situation. When you called and inquired about the IMEI, it was clean. T-Mobile had no way of knowing that the person who owed the EIP would stop making payments on the device now. Even though you have bought this through a third-party transaction, the original owner still owes T-Mobile money for the device. T-Mobile is within its rights to block the device because until T-Mobile receives payment for it, they can consider it in the same class as a stolen device.
