I have returned multiple phones and never had an issue.  Some people who make claims didn't actually do what they said they did.  Some do, and UPS is the one liable, however they used drop boxes and people often steal from these boxes.  Carriers are not going to lose money.  No matter what carrier you go to you'll end up on the same boat.
