I am considering changing to the Simple Choice plan for the global coverage, as I'm going to be traveling outside of the U.S. in Italy. However, I had some questions about what is covered and what you have to pay for. Looking through other answers on the support site, I feel like I've come across answers that conflict with the Simple Choice F.A.Q. I was directed to. I would like to know:

1. If you are calling a number local to your phone (in my case, another US number) when you are in one of the supported countries, do you still pay $.20/minute?

Yes.  You can call any of the supported countries from any of those countries (incl. U.S.) for 20¢/min.  Incoming in any of those countries is also the same 20¢.  If your phone does TM wifi calling, calls back to U.S. from anywhere in the world are free.   Texting to/from any of these same countries is free.  In other countries, I believe the rate is 50¢ each.  Incoming is free.

I had seen this answer in response on another discussion: "Calling or texting a number that is local to the caller or sender is free no matter where in the world the phone being contacted is located."

Is this true? If I, who have a US number, call another US number even when I am in another country, is this free? Is it free for a family member of mine also on the Simple Choice plan to contact me, when they are in the US and I am in another country?  See above for first art of this question.  Of course, it is free for anyone in the U.S. to dial your U.S. number.  People on Simple Choice plans have unlimited calling to any U.S. number .

And if this is the case, does the $.20/minute fee ONLY apply to contacting a number in one of the supported countries that is NOT local to you? I.E. I am traveling in Italy and I contact an Italian number. I would then pay the $.20/minute, correct?  Yes. Same if you call any other country on the list as well or back to U.S.

2. According to the statement above, texting to any number in any of the supported countries whether you are in the US or in another Simple Choice country is free. Is it also free for the people who contact you? I.E. I am traveling in Italy and someone who is NOT on a Simple Choice plan texts me (different carrier, different T-Mobile plan, etc). We both have numbers local to the US, but I am in Italy when I receive the text. Do I or they have to pay for that text?    Anyone who texts to a U.S. number pays (or doesn't pay) the same rate no matter where in the world that number happens to b.

Same scenario, if I text an Italian cell phone number, is that also free? As mentioned above, Yes

I've looked at this document but I found the explanations weren't clear enough for the scenarios I was wondering about. Thank you!

I have used TM for years around the world.  More recently used the new, "free" roaming for 2 weeks in China and Hong Kong.   The free data works perfectly for everything from audio streaming, to email, and even Google Maps.  Wife used it for her Facebook thing.
